Shorecrest Middle Schoolers compete in PGA Jr. League Championship

Shorecrest Middle Schoolers Sophia D. '26 and Clark M. '26 are on a golf team comprised of eight elite players aged 11-13 based in Orlando, FL. The Marriott Golf Academy team is Captained by Cori McAuliffe, LPGA, and Coached by Jeff Beaver. Recently, the team made it through the necessary stages of competition and were the first Florida team to make a PGA Jr. League Championship appearance.

The National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season includes 13u and 17u All-Star teams formed from a combination of players from each of the teams in a league. All-Star teams need to compete in and win a Section Championship before advancing to Regional competition. Twelve Regional 13u winners advanced to the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona being held October 7-10, 2021. The event was televised on ESPN networks.
66,000 children from all over the country started the PGA Junior League season and 96 (12 teams, each with eight players) made it to the Championship. The rookie Florida team, with the 2 Chargers Middle School players, finished medal play qualifying in the #1 seeding spot. In the match for third place, Oklahoma and Florida finished the first six holes of their nine-hole match tied. Oklahoma won three of the four matches down the stretch and halved the other to secure their third-place finish, leaving Florida in fourth place.
