As part of first grade's human body investigation, students have learned about different ways to keep their bodies healthy. They've learned that healthy eating habits are important to keep all the systems of our body functioning properly. Fruits and vegetables are a major part of a healthy diet.
To connect this information with hands-on learning, first grade started a new field study. Farmer Ray helped classes begin garden boxes last Friday. They cleaned out weeds from the boxes, turned the soil, and watered it. They planted cucumber, iceberg lettuce, carrot, and radish seeds as well as green beans.
Now, they must carefully water and tend the garden as they patiently wait for the seeds to sprout. They also got to pick and taste some herbs from the herb garden! Some first graders loved them, and some... not so much!
