Writing and Sharing Personal Narratives, 3rd Grade

Lower School News

Third grade recently completed a Personal Narrative writing unit. The students first thought about people, places, or things that are special to them and important moments they shared with those people, places, or things. Then, they began to write a small moment story. They learned about "hooking" the reader, using transitions, planning their story so there's a beginning, middle, and end, adding dialogue and emotion, and finally wrapping up their story with a conclusion that ties the story together. They dug deep to share personal moments and learned new vocabulary along the way. Now they know how to write non-fiction like writers!

Once their final pieces were written, students added a cover drawing and shared them in a public-speaking forum. Friends were invited to attend, and classmates shared their comments and praise on sticky notes for the author.
