Third Grade Led Children's March for Social Justice

Lower School News

On Friday, January 17, the entire K-4th Grade Lower School participated in a moving and empowering Children's March for Social Justice. Led by the Shorecrest third graders, the Lower School students paraded throughout the Shorecrest campus to honor and recognize the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whom we celebrate on January 20.

Winding through campus with visitors in tow, the group made stops at Upper School's Landy Hall, at the Middle School quad, and around the flagpole adjacent to the Athletic Center. At each stop, third graders gave speeches and read personal writings that reflected on Dr. King's lessons and leadership.

The Children's March for Social Justice was designed to practice activism and to empower the student body to apply and exercise their voice to promote issues and solutions dear to Dr. King.

Shorecrest will celebrate MLK in the community in St. Petersburg's MLK National Parade & Family Fun Day. Learn how to join the Chargers in the Parade here.
