Lower School Gathers for 1st Town Meeting of the School Year

Lower School News

At 8:10am Friday morning, the entire Lower School community gathered outside of Charger Commons to celebrate the first Town Meeting of the 2021-2022 school year. This Lower School community tradition was especially joyful after hosting mostly virtual Town Meetings during the 2020-2021 school year. Music Teacher Miss Marilyn welcomed the faculty, staff, students and parents with a song as each group found their seats in the new community space.

Dr. Lisa Bianco, Head of Lower School, opened the meeting, sharing the importance of building community and the value of the LS tradition of weekly Town Meetings as a full K-4th Grade Lower School. She led the students through the routine of standing and saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and sharing the Lower School motto in unison - “At Shorecrest Preparatory School we respect ourselves, each other, and the environment.”

Following the motto, students joined Miss Marilyn in a West African welcome song to welcome all the new faculty, staff and students to the Lower School, and to welcome our returning community members back to the new school year. Dr. Bianco closed the meeting with three simple instructions, "Work hard, have fun and take care of each other."

Town Meeting is a Shorecrest Lower School tradition that connects students and teachers across the Kindergarten - fourth grade Lower School each week. Different classes and groups take turns leading the meeting to share newfound knowledge, including projects, songs, announcements, and more. Town Meetings will be held on Fridays at 8:10am outside of Charger Commons. Parents/guardians are invited to attend the weekly meetings beginning September 10 for the first of many student/class shares.
