LS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

On Friday, September 17, the Lower School kicked off their annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the Month, September 15-October 15, students will participate in a number of festivities, including special Town Meetings, classroom activities and discussion, Hispanic-inspired dishes from SAGE Dining and more!

According to Lower School Spanish Teacher Sra. Jaime-Allwood, who has organized many of the events, “Hispanics are a big part of this country and their contributions definitely make a difference! It’s wonderful for all Chargers to learn about the influence of Hispanic culture on the United States. It’s also a great opportunity for our Hispanic-American students to celebrate their heritage with their classmates.” 

During the kickoff Town Meeting, second graders were the first group to lead a fashion show displaying typical attire from two Hispanic countries. The fashion shows are a favorite part of the celebrations. When the month has concluded students will have modeled attire from Argentina, Cuba, Guatemala, El Slavador, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela. Middle School students are invited to join the Friday Town Meetings during the month. 

“We also celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Hispanic-inspired dishes every Friday with SAGE in the Dining Rooms,” Sra. Jaime-Allwood shared. “We started with an Argentinian barbecue with chimichurri sauce and the Chargers LOVED it!” During the month students will also get to experience Salvadoran, Venezuelan and Spanish cuisine.
