Making a quilt in Kindergarten has been a tradition for over 13 years at Shorecrest. This tradition has inspired the project work we are beginning this week. We want the children to learn and understand more about the art of quilting since they are going to embark on the endeavor of making their own individual quilts.
In our quilt project, the students will be driven by the question, "Does a quilt do more than just keep people warm?" To begin our work, the Kindergarten teachers each shared their own "quilt story" then asked students to bring in a quilt or quilted item so they too could share their own "quilt story" with the class. Beginning with these stories sets the stage for the learning what will take place in the upcoming weeks. The children eagerly shared their stories with excitement and enthusiasm as they showed off their special items!
