First Grade Rock Walk

Shorecrest dad and geologist Matthew Hommeyer was a guest professor in first grade on January 8th. He taught first graders about the Earth’s crust and how to categorize rocks. He also shared information with students about sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks and their characteristics. After the lesson the class went on a Rock Walk to collect hand samples. The children enjoyed opening the rock samples to see their contents.
