Shorecrest Swim & Dive had some tough competition at this year’s City of St. Petersburg Championship Meet with the boys battling Lakewood and the girls up against a deep St. Petersburg High.
The boys handled Lakewood with our depth and were the overall City Champions. With only Dominic H. (diving) and the 400 Free Relay (Jake A., Corey C., Jack L. and Joseph B.) winning their events, it were the points scored in the next 15 places that truly mattered.
The girls fought to within 15.5 points of the championship, but had to settle for a hard-earned second place. The 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay (Hannah B., Courtney C, Taylor E. and Meredith L.) were outstanding with both finishing in first place. Individual winners were Meredith L. (50 Free) and Courtney C. (100 Breast). Great job, Chargers!

The Middle Division team finished up their regular season with a meet against Indian Rocks Christian, Northside Christian, Berkeley Prep and Tampa Prep. The team did well and special mention to Carlos G. for his first place in the 50 Breast and to all of our middle division squad on the amazing time drops at this meet and all through the season.

Chargers Swimming & Diving finished up the regular season with a very special Senior Night. Senior parents provided a lovely Olive Garden dinner in the classroom at the pool where team members and Coach Patty celebrated each senior with a short speech. After cutting and sharing the cake with the Senior picture on it, we were back in the pool to compete for another victory.
The girls team won all the relays with the 200 Medley staffed with Reagan Q., Taylor E., Clara W. and Emery C.; the 200 Free with Courtney C., Emery C., Hannah B. and Meredith L. and the 400 Free with Courtney C., Taylor E., Emery C. and Hannah B. Winning two events was Meredith L. (200 IM, 100 Breast), and taking one each were: Courtney C. (50 Free), Hannah D. (200 Free), Sophie E. (diving), Hannah B. (100 Fly), and Taylor E. (100 Back).
On the boys side winning one event each were: Joseph B. (200 Free), Felix S. (200 IM), Max K. (50 Free), Dominic H. (diving), Jake A. (100 Fly), Corey C. (100 Free), and Misha M. (500 Free). During the meet break, we recognized our seniors by parading them to the blocks, escorted by their parents, and presenting them with a bouquet and an embroidered towel. Many thanks to Athletic Director Jeff Raab, Mr. Murphy and Mr. Dillow for taking time to attend this special occasion.
Of course, the big event of the night is the “senior dive”, and this year we had more than a few front flips and one awesome cannonball! We will miss this talented group of seniors and wish them well with college choices and beyond.
