Varsity Football & Cheerleading Senior Night

Athletics

The Shorecrest Chargers varsity football team concluded it’s winning 2015 season with an emphatic 56-34 victory Friday night over Marco Island Academy.

All five of the graduating seniors scored touchdowns for the Chargers, and the defense contributed 4 interceptions. 3 of the 4 interceptions were by freshmen! Defensive end Hunter R caught a blocked pass by fellow defensive end Drew Z and ran into the end zone for the score. Freshman standout Colin H snagged 2 interceptions in the win over Marco Island Academy. Colin also led the team in receiving and touchdowns. The future is bright for these Chargers as they started as many as 7 freshmen in several games this season!

Coach Stephen Dudley was ecstatic about the win, and the turnaround season the Chargers enjoyed. “To go through a 1-9 season last year, then to have these boys pull together and turn things around to finish with a 6-3 record is just a great reward for lots of hard work, and our 5 seniors who led the way. We really seemed to improve every single game. By the last game of the season, we were playing with so much confidence and solid execution. It was a fantastic season in so many ways.”

The five seniors who played their last football game for the Chargers were all big contributors to the team’s success this season in their play and according to Coach Dudley “in their leadership”. They are Aundre F, Cooper W, Patrick F, Chad S, and Aaron S. “I really believe these 5 were simply tired of losing & wanted to go out winners,” concluded coach Dudley. "These guys helped us turn the mindset around with this program, and now the younger guys have followed their lead & expect to win."

The 2015 Charger Football Team outscored their opponents 240-175, and averaged 30 points per game.

Congratulations to seniors Taylor A, Sidney B, Sydney B, Megan F, Anna S and Jordan W as they were honored at halftime of the final home football game for Senior Night! Thank you for all you have done for the Cheerleading Squad!
