The Brain: the Boss of Our Body

Lower School News

On Monday, a favorite guest expert, Ms. Peck, visited first grade from Upper School anatomy class. She dissected sheep brains to help students learn all about the very important organ that makes us who we are… our brain!

While an adult’s brain weighs 3 pounds and is about the size of a cantaloupe, a sheep’s brain is about the size of an infant’s brain. It was so cool to be able to see and touch it! First graders learned about the different parts of the brain and the functions each part controls. The brain grows the most during the first 10 years of life, so Mrs. Owen reminded her class that it is important to learn as much as they can now to s-t-r-e-t-c-h their brain power!

Did you know that making mistakes is one of the best ways your brain learns and grows? That’s good news!
