Jo-Ann Fabrics Field Experience

Lower School News

The Kindergarten classes went to Jo-Ann Fabrics & Craft Store this week as a field study for their quilting project. There they learned about quilts, quilting tools, and how to make a quilt! They had a guided tour of the store to see the variety of fabrics, tools, kinds of batting, quilt design books, sewing machines and more.

Each class also decided on a theme for a class quilt which will later be donated to a child at the Salvation Army. At the store they chose fleece for the back of the quilt and different themed fabrics for the front squares as well as for the borders.
  • Mrs. Minke's class will make a woodland animals themed quilt
  • Mrs. Vigue's class will make an ocean themed quilt
  • Ms. Hawley's class will make a flower themed quilt
  • Mrs. Kotsko's class will make a  jungle themed quilt
Each class found multiple fabrics to correlate with their theme and voted on which ones they liked best for use when making twin sized quilts. The children who receive the quilts will know they were made with love and care and will cherish them for many years.
