Two Leavengoods have two plays opening on both coasts in one month! First, Bill Leavengood ‘78 learned that his new one-act, "Infinit-E," will be produced in New York as part as New Circle Theatre Company's Inferno Project.
The Inferno Project is a multi-year initiative in which New Circle Theatre Company playwrights are asked to create new dramatic work based on the nine levels of Hell in Danté’s Inferno. In June 2017, they co-produced with LIU Post the first level - Limbo, featuring 16 ten-minute plays by 16 different writers, 16 directors, and over 30 actors. In the upcoming season, they’re tackling two levels, Lust and Gluttony. This time writers were asked to create one-act plays, taking a modern look at these age-old “sins”. Lust and Gluttony will be presented at The Gene Frankel Theatre in June 2018.
The Leavengood family also found out a new one-act by Charlie Leavengood ‘17, "The Gentile's Song," will be produced as part of The 26th Annual Blank Theatre YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL in Hollywood, CA. Every June, The Blank Theatre produces the 12 best plays by playwrights ages 9 - 19, chosen from a nationwide competition. In the past 25 years, they’ve produced 308 plays by young writers. Nowhere else in the nation can young playwrights receive the prize of seeing their vision come to life on stage in a professional production featuring known actors from film, television and theatre. This is the second time Charlie has received this honor, having had her play “Lazy Boy” produced there in 2016.
In addition, “Paleo Man”, a film written & directed by Bill Leavengood recently premiered at the 13th annual Sunscreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, FL. Shorecrest Upper School Film and screenwriting classes were in attendance. In the 20 minute film, a lonely and traumatized teenaged runaway (played by Charlie Leavengood) must try to live off the land with the help of a mysterious, homeless Veteran who calls himself Paleo Man. Watch the official trailer here - you just might see some more familiar Charger faces!
Bill, a teacher at Shorecrest Preparatory School and USF-Tampa, is best known locally as the writer/director of "WEBB’S CITY: THE MUSICAL," which will be returning once again to the Palladium Theater Sept. 21-23, 2018.
