Varsity Girls Basketball vs IRC: 38-27 Win

Upper School News

The varsity girls basketball Chargers took care of business against Indian Rocks Christian on Tuesday night with a final score of 38-27! The effort was spearheaded by a two-pronged attack from Renice Dacres ‘19 and Nikki Ayers ‘22. Dacres returned to the lineup after a six game absence due to injury and finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 steals. Ayers filled up the stat sheet with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 steals.

Brielle K. ‘25 made her first start at point guard and created havoc on the defensive end with her fellow Middle School starting back court mate Taylor H. ‘23 to help hold the Eagles to 27 points on 18% shooting. Brielle and Taylor finished 5 points and 2 points respectively.

Another sixth grader, 6th woman Ava F. ‘25 contributed significantly on the defensive end and freed up Dacres to grab offensive and defensive rebounds by consistently boxing the opposition out.

Grace Salter ‘22 returned from injury after the holiday break and gave a significant contribution on the defensive glass on Tuesday to give Morgan Healy ‘22 a hand alongside Claire Bryant ‘19 and Angel Cherman ‘19.

Coach Roddy Brown Jr. said, “I am grateful to have Renice back after her extended absence. It was very tough to gauge how Renice was holding up because she is such a tough kid and will never let on that she’s hurting. While she was gone, our four ninth graders, one eighth grader, and two sixth graders got a chance to get some valuable experience and get a very important preview of what life after Renice will look like. This was probably our 2nd best game we played this season behind our 50-54 loss to Keswick Christian while having only 1 substitute.”

These ladies are back at it again on Friday, January 25, for their penultimate home game and regular season game against state championship contender, Seffner Christian at 6pm!

It’s Senior Night on Monday, January 28, as the Chargers conclude their regular season against Canterbury at 6pm. At this game, Angel Cherman and Renice Dacres (1,000 Point Club Member) will be honored for their contributions to the Girls Basketball Program over their tenure at Shorecrest!
Come out and show your Charger Pride! Go Chargers!
