Junior Wins Environmental Video Contest

Arts

Since 2014, Youth Making Ripples film competition has been at the intersection of science and film, providing students an outlet to creatively express the threats to our oceans and ways to help protect them. Videos submitted with messages about ocean conservation are judged in three categories. This year, the Viewers’ Choice category had 5 Shorecrest students from the Upper School environmental studies class among the 9 finalists.

The public voted online for their favorite film in early March 2020. The winner of the Viewers’ Choice category was “Not enough Fish in the Sea” by Julia Marquis '21. She made the film as her capstone project for Honors Environmental Science class. Watch the winning video here.

Youth Making Ripples will continue to share Julia's film with public audiences at select film festivals throughout the year. She also received a cash award.

The 2021 competition is currently open for submissions. Learn more here.
