The main goal of an Athletic Director is the same as any other educator: to provide their students with the opportunity to develop to their maximum potential while teaching life skills along the way. As Shorecrest’s Athletic Director, I am proudest of the opportunity afforded to our coaching staff and myself to invest ourselves daily in the lives and development of our students.
By offering a wide variety of competitive teams and programs, Shorecrest Chargers are emboldened to find a place where they can apply their skills and talents. We encourage participation in athletics as an essential part of a Shorecrest education because our student-athletes develop as individuals and gain essential skills and traits like teamwork, self-discipline, courage and fortitude.
My vision for Shorecrest athletics is to instill the value of competition and how to win and lose with a grace and dignity; to create a culture of high expectations coupled with a work ethic and commitment to attain those goals; and ultimately, we want athletic teams that our students are proud to be members of and that consistently represent our Core Values.
Most would define success in athletics solely by the number of wins and championships. These achievements are important, but relying on them as metrics for success alone would limit the impact we truly desire to have on the lives of our students. The Shorecrest Athletics Department’s success is based on commitment — the commitment of student-athletes, parents and coaches to achieve our goals together.
Our student-athletes dedicate themselves to hard work and improvement of their physical skills and conditioning, while dually striving for excellence in the classroom. Parental encouragement and a presence at sporting events is instrumental in developing interest in a school and fostering school pride. Another essential component of our Athletics Department’s success is our community’s commitment to supporting the Shorecrest Fund.
The Shorecrest Fund is our school’s main fundraising priority. It provides essential financial support to all of our programs — including Athletics. With donor support over the past few years, we have been able to refurbish the Haskell field track, upgrade the Orkin Family scoreboard, invest in new backstop padding and mats for student safety, recondition helmets, purchase new knee pads for our athletes and so much more.
Thank you to our school community for supporting the Athletics Department and the Chargers we serve!
