The Janet Root Rising Star Award
Janet Root had a great eye for spotting the best talent among Shorecrest’s Performing Artists. In honor of Janet, the Janet Root Rising Star Award is given to individuals which the Performing Arts faculty believe have exhibited the most talent and artistic promise within the current year. This award is designed to recognize the most outstanding students who have made an extraordinary leap into the limelight. This year’s Musical Theatre recipients are:

The Chris Borges Award for Outstanding Participation in the Arts
In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, in 1999 the Shorecrest Board of Trustees created an award to honor former Chair Chris Borges. This very special honor is given to a student who participates in one or more art disciplines and best exemplifies excellence in scholarship; proven leadership and dedication, support and commitment to the Visual and/or Performing Arts. This year’s recipient are outstanding scholars as well as award winning triple threats in the disciplines of singing, dancing and acting:

Mary B. Christian Award
The Mary B. Christian Award for
Sustained Achievement
is given to the senior student(s) whose talent and dedication has made the greatest impact on the Shorecrest Performing Arts Program during their time in the Upper School. Mary B. Christian was Shorecrest’s beloved Drama Director for 18 years. The Recipients of the Mary B Christian Award for 2020-2021 are:

Ari Weiss Leadership Award
The Ari Weiss Leadership Award is given to a student who is not only a talented performer or technician, but who demonstrates the finest leadership qualities including emblematic behavior and conduct, enthusiasm and professional zeal, and most importantly, encouragement, compassion and support to their fellow theatre students. The 2021 Ari Weiss Leadership Award goes to:

Triple Threat Award
To achieve the Triple Threat Award the candidate must be competent in all three disciplines of Singing, Acting and Dance and excel in at least one area.
