Global Explorers Share with Second Grade

Upper School News

The inspiring enrichment opportunities of Shorecrest’s Global Explorers program have been scaled-down for two years due to health and safety travel restrictions. However, Chargers are still sharing the impact that international experiences had on their education and cultural awareness. As second graders are studying schools around the world, four Shorecrest tenth graders who were exchange students in Madrid, Spain, were invited to present about their trip.

“I was impressed by the way the older students spoke about their experience in Spain as exchange students,” said Lower School Spanish teacher Emili Jaime-Allwood. “Global Explorers is a program which encourages our students to feel a spirit of internationalism, leadership and adventure.”

Avery Richardson ‘24 remembered of his exchange trip, “We saw so many castles and churches, we made so many friends, and we practiced our Spanish.”

Adelaide Oman ‘24 shared, “We loved the food in Spain, especially the churros with hot chocolate.”

Jensen Hallock-Wishner ‘24 says the differences between Shorecrest and the school in Madrid -- Colegio Ramon y Cajal -- stuck with him. When you attend the same school for a long time it is interesting to compare your day-to-day life with those of students elsewhere.

Hopefully in 2023 Shorecrest’s Global Explorers will once again complete an exchange with students in Spain. Also be on the lookout for a summer 2023 trip to Argentina for Shorecrest families!
