Chargers Nominated for Broadway Star of the Future Awards

The award-winning Shorecrest Performing Arts thespians were back in the Janet Root Theatre for the beloved jukebox musical “Mamma Mia!” The production was reviewed as part of the Broadway Star of the Future program presented by the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. Under direction of the US Theatre and Thespian director Michael McCarthy, the following Chargers have been nominated for Broadway Star of the Future Awards for their roles in "Mamma Mia!":
Verity Rabin '23 (Donna), Marco Camuzzi '23 (Sam) and Lauren Brumbelow '24 (Sophie) were nominated for Outstanding Performer in a Leading Role in a Musical.
Holland Bentley '23 (Lisa) and Jolie Bentley '23 (Ali) were nominated for Outstanding Performer in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
Caroline Carlan '23 (Dance Captain) and Tanner Johnson '26 (Pepper) were nominated for Outstanding Dancer in a Musical.
Michael McCarthy was nominated for Outstanding Musical Direction.
Technical Direction (Brad Miller), Set Design (Upper School Stagecraft Classes), Costume Design (Jennifer Marquis) and the Lighting Design (Thomas Murphy '25) were all nominated for Outstanding Technical Achievement.
Special achievement was also noted on the Collaborative Chemistry of Verity Rabin '23, Kaelie Dieter '26, Sarah Ellis Morgan '23 (Donna, Tanya, Rosie).

Shorecrest will be notified in a few weeks which awards the production has received and who is invited to perform at the Broadway Star of the Future Awards Showcase on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Broadway Star of the Future Awards are Regional awards affiliated with the National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) or the Jimmy™ Awards. The Jimmy™ Award for Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by an Actor is awarded annually to two grand prize winners selected from a group of student performers representing participating professional theatres nationwide.

At the Broadway Star of the Future Showcase in Tampa, Winners of Best Performance by an Outstanding Actor and Best Performance by an Outstanding Actress will be selected. Winners are then invited to attend the Jimmy Awards / National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, expenses paid. Participants experience a week of private coaching, master classes, and rehearsals with theatre professionals and they receive opportunities for merit scholarships, professional advancement, and other prizes.
