Shorecrest School

5000 thanks (& photos!) from Earl Walton and the 5k Committee

Lower School News Advancement

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun at the Shore to Shorecrest 5k walk/run and Sparky Sprint presented by Woodie's Wash Shack on Saturday morning. You have officially launched us into the next 100 years.

“I have stood at starting lines for most of my life, and I think that sunrise may just register in my top 5, and those Sparky Sprinters make the Cross Country coach in me excited for the future!” shared Race Director Earl Walton. “I hope you enjoyed it; I hope you took in the smiles of everyone racing.”

This event was just an idea a year ago; a way to create a physical connection between the history of Shorecrest and our hometown of St. Petersburg. To take an idea and make it a reality is one of the coolest and most challenging things. Ideas are easy. Setting mile markers, blowing up signs, handing out medals, herding Sparky Sprinters and flipping pancakes in the sun is hard.

Thank you to the sponsors, staff and volunteers who made our inaugural (yes, inaugural means there just might be another one…) Shore to Shorecrest 5k. Your tenacious efforts over the past few months and your commitment, energy, sweat and smiles in the early hours on Saturday morning are appreciated beyond words.
