Carson Granese ‘25 heads to State Science Fair
Carson Granese ‘25 participated in the Regional Science Fair. Carson presented his project Overcoming Microgravity’s Effects on the Lymphatic System during Long-Term Space Travel. As astronauts pursue long-term space travel, health impacts on the human body need more research. The lymphatic system is significantly impacted by microgravity and can cause circulatory and immune issues. NASA has limited research on garments and equipment that can negate the impacts of microgravity on the lymphatic system. Carson is working on a garment that uses vibrational motors and force-sensing resistors to help maintain lymph circulation in space. He was inspired to continue the work he started back in 2019 with his Shorecrest Middle School robotics team.
Carson took first place in his category, Computer Information Systems and Robotics, and also won a Spotlight Award for his innovation from Robotic Parking Systems, along with a $100 cash prize. He will be representing Shorecrest at the State Science Fair from April 2-4. A main objective of the State Science Fair is to recognize scientific talent in young people.
