Counselor Spotlight - Brian Wiley

Faculty Spotlight Upper School News

Brian Wiley, Upper School Counselor, is most passionate when helping teens and adolescents navigate life's challenges. He has had counseling experience in a variety of settings with diverse populations.

“Brian is a vital member of the Upper School Administrative Team. He has quickly built relationships with our students and has created a welcoming space where our students feel comfortable expressing themselves openly. Along with student leaders, he is leading our Mental Health Matters Club to support student well-being efforts and programming,” stated Stacy Alexander, US Head Dean.

Brian has always been interested in cognitive psychology, the study of how the human brain functions and mental processes. This includes how people think, learn and remember.

“One of my goals is to empower students by creating a community where they can be their authentic selves, and to help them develop the tools and skills necessary to achieve personal success beyond Shorecrest,” shared Brian.

When meeting with students, Brian utilizes Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Brian takes a positive approach to counseling. By identifying and building upon a person's strengths, he and the student are able to collaborate on constructing a solution to an adverse situation they might be experiencing at that moment.

“Brian’s unique blend of humor and empathy helps him understand and connect with students. His impressive experience, coupled with his passion for supporting teens and adolescents, makes him an excellent resource for students and families navigating life's challenges,” shared Kate Fierce, LS Counselor.

Brian was born and raised in Philadelphia. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Education in School and Mental Health Counseling and worked for almost 10 years as a professional therapist. Brian enjoys spending time with his wife, three kids, a dog and two cats. He also loves to read anything by Stephen King, watch horror movies and support the Philadelphia Eagles. This is Brian’s first year at Shorecrest.
