34th Annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Upper School News

Students, faculty and staff were excited to welcome visitors for Shorecrest's 34th Annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day! After a continental breakfast in the Athletic Center, nearly 600 guests of grandparents, great-grandparents and special friends were ushered into the Janet Root Theatre for performances from all ages. The concert band played, many grade levels sang, and the Upper School Thespians performed a teaser from their upcoming spring musical, A Chorus Line. (Highlights from the performance may be watched here.)

Thank you to members of the Grandparent's Council, Jeannine Hascall and Hunt and Jeanne Davis, for addressing the crowd and reminding them that a strong community is what keeps amazing things happening at Shorecrest. Two sets of grandparents said they have been returning to Shorecrest for this special event for at least 15 years!

Next, visitors were able to head into classrooms. There they played ice breaker games, reviewed Spanish vocabulary, read books, viewed Minecraft projects and more.

The Grandparent’s Council encourages grandparents to get involved at Shorecrest and get to know each other. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for grandparents at Shorecrest from volunteering in the library or a garden, helping with art or athletic events and more. The Council also organizes several social and learning activities during the school year. Attendees enjoy getting to know fellow grandparents and learning more about Shorecrest.

The next event is "What's the End Result?" a presentation from the Shorecrest College Center that will describe today's college admissions process and explain how a Shorecrest education helps students stand out. Join us Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 6pm for a cocktail reception and 7pm for the presentation in Shorecrest's Student Activity Center. Please RSVP by Feb. 7 at [email protected]

Thank you to Shorecrest parent Corrie Stover and her group of volunteers, as well as Debe Shenkman, Manager of Events and Special Projects, for keeping the event running smoothly all day.
