Basketball Weekly Update
Shorecrest Chargers Varsity Boys Basketball vs. Houston Academy: 43-58 Loss.
The team played hard but the Ball just could not find the basket. Nickolas Bearden '25 had 16 points and Enrique Negron '25 added 13 points.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Providence Christian: 55-61 Loss.
The team had a better rhythm and played with more confidence. Turnovers and missed freethrows led to the team falling short. Nickolas Bearden '25 had 33 points and 10 rebounds, Enrique Negron had 12 rebounds '25.
Middle School Girls Basketball vs. St Stephen’s: 22-16 Win!
The MS Girls Basketball team hit the road and headed over the Skyway to take on St Stephen’s. Team defense for the Chargers was stifling as Kira D. '29, Sanya P. '29 and Phoenix F. '30 hounded the St Stephen’s front court all game. Lexi T. '29 and Valeska T. '29 powered the offense. Lexi T. '29 scored a season high 13 points to go along with 11 steals. Valeska T. '29 had 7 points and Kira D. '29 scored her first points of the season. The Chargers never trailed in the game and led by 8 points going into the 4th quarter. It was a smothering team defense from the ladies!
Middle School Girls Basketball vs. CDS: 16-26 Loss.
The Chargers continued their "Bay Area and Beyond Tour 2023" and played at CDS yesterday. Despite being down by double digits the Chargers fought back in the second half and held CDS to 6 points.
Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Manatee HS Hurricanes: 17-41 Loss.
Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Saint Petersburg Catholic: 6-37 Loss.
Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Houston Academy: 14-37 Loss.
Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Providence Christian School: 18-55 Loss.
"The first quarter was phenomenal," Coach Moore said. "We need to get back on defense and limit second-shot opportunities. This was a great bonding trip for the team!"
Middle School Boys Gold Basketball vs. Carrollwood Day School: 27-29 Loss.
The Chargers had such a great team effort. They had a few chances to take the Win keeping the score within 2 points the whole game! "It was an exciting one to coach," shared Coach Nelson. "The game came down to a few plays and a few missed calls. They played great, executed well, and ended up losing in overtime. There was great performance and leadership exhibited by Carter W. '29."
