Contributing Chargers: Sembler Family

Contributing Chargers Advancement

Shorecrest’s Mission is augmented by the generosity of our parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends who support the school philanthropically or as advocates in our wider community. We call these community members Contributing Chargers.

The Sembler Family continues to be long-time Contributing Chargers, and we are so grateful. Since joining the community in the 1960s, members of the Sembler Family have actively shared their time, talent and philanthropic support year after year. Members of the Sembler family are Alumni, current parents, grandparents, and have served the School as volunteers, including as Trustees. This year the Sembler Family was a Golden Charger sponsor of The Shorecrest Gala presented by American Integrity Insurance Group.

During her time at Shorecrest, Debbie Sembler has served as a member of the Board of Trustees, parent of alumni to Tayllor Sembler Battle '06, Logan Sembler '08 and Preston Sembler '13 and grandparent to Addie '36.

On behalf of the Sembler Family, Debbie Sembler shared in a recent interview the many reasons why Shorecrest is important to their family.

What is your connection to Shorecrest? Why is Shorecrest important to you?
Shorecrest has played a significant role in our family’s journey with education. After all three of my children graduated from SPS, it’s wonderful to see the tradition continue with my grandchildren who have already begun Alpha, or will soon begin, their Shorecrest journey as soon as they turn 3.

What do you enjoy most about being part of this community?
When I was a parent at the school, I always appreciated its’ intimate size, fostering direct contact for parents with teachers and administrators. The school has always had a rigorous academic program combined with a well-rounded offering in athletics and the arts. By providing opportunities for participation by all students in a variety of activities, they can experience and excel in that particular area of their passion. The commitment to individualized growth has not only contributed to the school’s excellent reputation but has also proven itself in the success of my children who were able to attend the universities of their choice.

What drew you to becoming a Golden Charger Sponsor supporting the Shorecrest Gala for our Centennial?
For more than 30 years, my husband and I have been enthusiastic supporters of Shorecrest. Watching the next generation in our family benefit from Shorecrest’s education adds an extra layer of joy to our commitment and the motivation to continue supporting for many more years.

How do you think your gift will impact current and future Shorecrest students?
I’m hopeful that our contributions played a role in establishing The Experiential School. I have witnessed the nurturing care and encouragement given to the growth and development of these young minds and it’s very satisfying to know that we helped.

Will you share something you look forward to as we enter our second century?
As we step into our second century at Shorecrest, we are particularly excited about the prospect of preserving and continuing the traditions that have been carefully handed down through the years, adding a rich layer of legacy for our children’s children.

Today, Shorecrest is a shining example of the commitment from administrators, faculty, students, parents and alumni to excel in academic excellence. Tomorrow, it can only be better.
