Valentines Dance & The Spanish Club
February 11, 2015
The Valentines Dance, sponsored by the Spanish Club, was held on Saturday, February 7, at the St. Petersburg Museum of History. The dance was a benefit for The Childrens' Dream Fund.
At 10:30pm, Dean Sessions crowned senior Georgia L the Queen of Hearts and senior Karim O the King of Hearts. She also crowned juniors Kalee B and Cole E, sophomores Nicole L and Max K, and freshmen Juliette S and Troy G as their Court. The US students voted for two people from each class who actively serve our own small community in the Upper School. They were asked to think of fellow students who are always kind and helpful and don’t desire recognition. Congratulations to all of these students for earning this honor from their peers!
The Valentine Dance was a success. Congratulations and thanks to the Dance Committee Heads: Annie G, Madi F, Max K, Zack S and Sara S for a job well done!
Special thanks to Sra. Powers, Spanish club faculty Sponsor, and senior Milan S, Spanish Club President. Finally, we want to thank the student volunteers and those who attended the dance to support such a good cause. As always, the US Spanish Club is proud to be a member of the Childrens' Dream Fund Kids Who Care program.

The Valentine's Dance was just one of this year's fundraisers of the Spanish Club. In the past, they have paid for a year of dental school for a young woman in The Dominican Republic. (Dental school there costs a great deal less than a year of dental school here in the USA.) She pledged to stay on the island to be a dentist for her fellow Dominicans.
In addition, Spanish Club works with Guardian ad Litem to purchase various items that children need from time to time. Earlier this year, they purchased 30 duffle bags and 30 personal hygiene kits full of hygiene items for some of the children who are shuttled from one home to another with only a plastic bag to use for their belongings. Spanish Club also thanks the Upper School faculty for their participation with a Teachers Appreciation Lunch in April.
