Spring Music Concert

Upper School News

On April 29, 2015, students in grades 4-12 performed in our Spring Music Concert in the Janet Root Theatre. The Shorecrest instrumental musicians presented their annual Spring Concert for Lower and Middle School students in the afternoon, and parents and friends in the evening.

The Beginning Band along with our two fifth grade band students opened the show with a lively performance of Katy Perry’s “Firework.” An encore performance was demanded and the audiences at both performances joined in with energetic handclapping. Upper School Guitarists stuck with the upbeat theme and played a peppy version of "Who Will Buy?" from Oliver.

The two fifth grade band members, clarinetist Sarah L. and flutist Gabby P. took the audience on a trip to the far east with a delightful rendering of the Japanese folk song “Hotura Koi.”
A new addition to the Shorecrest vocal music, the “Treblecrest” a cappella singers, was featured next with a very strong performance of the pop hit “All of Me” that demonstrated why these groups have become so popular on college campuses over the past few years. This is definitely a group to watch in this unique vocal genre.

The Shorecrest Concert Band then took us back with a jazzy arrangement of the themes from George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Sophomore pianist Holly McKalip’s rendering of “Sonatina” by Kuhlau was spectacular. Her delicate touch and flawless technique epitomized the pianistic style of the classical period. It was a stunningly beautiful performance.

Then the Concert Band reprised "Bohemian Rhapsody" from Grandparents and Special Friends Day so a new audience could hear it.

The MS Rockers got the crowd pumped with a revamped throwback '80s tune "Just What I Needed" by The Cars.

The Concert Band closed the concert with a fast and furious rendering Karl King’s rousing “Rough Riders” march.

The evening performance closed with sad good-byes to senior band members Katherina F., Luke P., Paul R., Stephen S. and Jake S., as well as to Director Tom Glaister who will be retiring at the end of the year.

The concert was another demonstration that the arts are strong and flourishing at Shorecrest!
