Logan G. Best of Show in Artistic Discovery

Upper School News

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

This year, Shorecrest Upper School student, junior Logan G., entered her drawing into the competition. Logan's artwork was selected for Best of Show at the 13th Congressional District Artisitic Discovery. This High School Exhibition will display winning artwork at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center April 1- 30, with a reception and awards ceremony Sunday, April 10. Congressman David Jolly will give out certificates and awards. As Best of Show, Logan will have her artwork hung in the Cannon Tunnel of the US Capitol for one year and receive two round trip airline tickets to travel to Washington, D.C. in June. Three honorable mentions will also be awarded. Each student in the exhibiton will receive a special certificate for this prestigious exhibition from Congressman Jolly.

High Schools in District 13 include: Admiral Farragut, Bayside, Boca Ciega, Calvary Christian, Clearwater, Countryside, Dixie Hollins, Dunedin, Largo, Northeast, Osceola, Pinellas Park, St. Pete Catholic, Seminole and Shorecrest Preparatory School.
