Shorecrest Upper School's Global Scholars Initiative (GSI) welcomed Rayna Exelbierd for a campus conversation on Monday, January 9th. Ms. Exelbierd is a youth representative with Stand With Us, an Israeli advocacy group. She is also an associate of alumna Hannah Weiss '16, who helped lead the conversation.
Ms. Exelbierd stressed the extent to which the United States and Israel have shared values of democracy and individual rights. Using a series of examples and quotes from a variety of sources, she also provided an historical narrative regarding the founding of modern Israel and to illustrate the mutually beneficial relationship shared between Israel and the United States. She also defined and discussed the concept of Zionism.
At their usual 2nd Thursday meeting, GSI students debriefed on her remarks, engaged in some fact-checking, and discussed the themes she developed.
