Chargers 11, Indian Rocks Christian 10
The Chargers arrived to Indian Rocks ready to play on Tuesday night. With a 6pm start, no one could have expected such an exhilarating two and a half hour game. Down 9-0 in the first inning and 10-1 by the second inning, the Chargers held Indian Rocks in the third to ultimately take the 11-10 win in extra innings.
The Charger offense came alive in the third inning, earning two runs before starting a six-run rally in the fourth inning, adding a run in the fifth inning to tie it up, and ultimately scoring one in the top of the eighth inning to earn the win.
Leading the offense, Ashlee Burkett ‘19 batted .600 with a double, two triples, and an impressive 5 RBIs. Taylor R. ‘23 also had a great day, going 4 for 5 and scoring three runs, including the 11th run of the game to win it all. Jaina Swann ‘22 contributed 2 hits, while Lillee B. ‘23, Rachel Ford ‘21, and Asha Swann ‘21 contributed a hit each.
Though Dorothy Cenedella ‘21 started on the mound and did a great job setting the tone for an energetic and exciting game, Asha came in to earn the win. Asha pitched six of the eight innings and allowed zero runs. She struck out three and allowed her defense to consistently make great plays against a hard-hitting team.
Chargers 4, Northside Christian 0
Jaina Swann ‘22 led a stellar defense in the shutout against Northside on Thursday, striking out 15 batters in seven innings.
The Charger offense was led by Asha Swann ‘21 who went 2 for 3 at the plate with a 2 RBI home run to right field. Jaina also picked up an RBI, going 2 for 3 on the day. Lillee B. ‘23, Ashlee Burkett ‘19, and Adelaide O. ‘24 each contributed two hits to the win.
Chargers 9, St. Pete Catholic 2
The Chargers ended last week on a win, defeating St. Pete Catholic 9-2 on Friday, April 12. Asha Swann ‘21 (4 for 4) and Taylor R. ‘23 (3 for 3 with a walk) both batted 1.000 on the day, getting on base in each of their four at bats. Taylor had a solid triple, while doubles were added by Asha, Ashlee Burkett ‘19, Jaina Swann ‘22, and Gabi H. ‘23 Also having a good day at the plate, Rachel Ford ‘21 went 2 for 3, while Dorothy Cenedella ‘21 and Adelaide O. ‘24 each contributed a hit to the win. It was a team effort in Shorecrest’s 15-hit day.
Asha earned the win, pitching four innings and striking out four. Jaina came in to close and picked up a save, pitching three innings and striking out four.
Chargers 0, Keswick Christian 13
Taylor R. ‘23 led the Charger offense in the 13-0 win against Keswick. Taylor went 2 for 4 with a double, a homerun, and 3 RBIs. Ashlee Burkett ‘19 added a homerun, while Adelaide O. ‘24, Asha Swann ‘21, and Jaina Swann ‘22 each added two hits to the day.
Asha pitched all five innings in the 13-0 shutout. She had five strikeouts, giving up just two hits.
Chargers 1, Admiral Farragut 5
The Chargers held a great team to five runs over seven innings. Jaina Swann ‘22 singled to right field in the second inning then scored on Adelaide O.’s RBI to get the Chargers on the board. Rachel Ford ‘21 led the Charger offense, batting 1.000 with two solid singles and a walk. Adelaide O. ‘24, Jaina Swann ‘22, and Summer Ford ‘21 also contributed a hit each. Jaina pitched, picking up 10 strikeouts on the day.
