At the FHSAA 1A State Track and Field meet in May 2021, Sonoma Kasica '24 threw a new Shorecrest school record in the javelin and through her dominant performance was also named State Champion! Sonoma has also been an outstanding goalkeeper for Chargers soccer since Middle School.
Her Chargers Javelin Coach, Mark Brown, remarked, "Sonoma is a special thrower who faced every competitive moment with determination to perform at the highest level. She relentlessly practiced and refined every aspect of the javelin throw with the desire to be great and to simply be the best. Coupled with her technical approach, Sonoma's humility and coachability make her an absolute pleasure to coach."
This talented and self-motivated athlete was honored on November 4, 2021, when her State Champion banner was revealed in the Crisp Gym in front of an audience of her family, close friends and other Chargers. It will hang as a constant reminder of her remarkable achievement.
