Chargers attend CMUNCE XXII
Last week 20 Chargers attended the Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition in New York City, escorted by Mr. Heller and Mr. and Mrs. Asad. Students participated in Committees ranging from Climate Issues and the Knesset Elections of 2022, to Camelot, Piracy, and the Handmaid's Tale. Exciting conversations with experts in the fields of cybersecurity and nuclear disarmament were added to explore some of the pressing issues our world faces.
Upon arrival in the Big Apple, they took a guided tour of the United Nations to gain a better understanding of how the "real one" works. They also toured the New York Times offices and had a Q&A with Mr. Heller's friend Michael Slackman, assistant managing editor for International, in charge of the international news report across the newsroom, overseeing Times bureaus around the globe.
The Model UN is a very enriching experience as it allows students from around the world to problem solve real problems and revisit historical issues. Throughout the weekend every delegate is encouraged to keep an open mind, engage in respectful debate and make new friends.
