Football: Shorecrest 31, South Daytona Warner Christian 8

Athletics

After rain and hurricane delays, Shorecrest Prep was ready for its first home game of the regular season. Coming all the way from South Daytona, the Warner Christian Eagles could not hold back the offense of the Chargers, led by quarterback Will L and running backs Apollo K and Orrin F. Orrin scored three out of the four touchdowns for the Chargers. The Eagles put points on the board late in the fourth quarter with quarterback Emani G getting a touchdown followed by running back Jamal H getting the two-point conversion.

Star of the game: Earning 68 rushing yards, Orrin F. helped the Chargers' field position and set up Will L to make a 27-yard field goal late in the third quarter.

Play of the game: A 10-yard run by Will L, to the 37-yard line, set up a touchdown pass to Orrin F, giving the Chargers a 14-0 lead which they held for the remainder of the first half.

Key stat: Both teams racked up serious penalties. The Chargers accumulated 14 and had two unsportsmanlike penalties which cost them 30 yards at the start of the second quarter. The Eagles racked up 15 penalties including one unsportsmanlike.

Final word: "Our boys were so tired of practices, they were ready. It's been hard to keep them motivated without games because going into tonight's (game) we were 0-0. We played well and a lot of questions were answered. I think we set the tone early and I think it helped our confidence." — Shorecrest coach Steve Dudley
