Upper School News

Shorecrest Athletics announces Skyler Ellenburg ‘14, Shorecrest alumna, as new Head Varsity Girls Soccer Coach.

Former Chargers soccer team Captain and leading team scorer in 2011-2014, Skyler Ellenburg ‘14, will lead the Chargers on the field as the new Head Coach of the girls varsity soccer team. Ellenburg will replace Coach Neal Wolfrath, who is relocating to the east coast of Florida. Coach Worlfrath has served as the Varsity Head Coach for the last 20 years.

“Coach Wolfrath did a fantastic job building relationships with his players and instilling a desire to compete and persevere. We are thankful to him for his many years of dedication and hard work on behalf of the Charger Athletics Department. He built the girls soccer program at Shorecrest and he will certainly be missed,” stated Athletic Director Anthony McCall.

Under Coach Wolfrath's leadership, the Chargers made 17 playoff appearances ('02, '04-'18, '20), earning nine district titles and four State Final Four appearances. In his 20 seasons in charge of the Varsity Girls Soccer team he had an overall coaching record of 247-116-25.

In the 2019-20 season, the Varsity Girls Soccer team made its first state final appearance, losing a hard-fought game to a talented St. Johns Country Day team.

Coach Ellenburg has served as an assistant coach to Coach Wolfrath for the previous two seasons and in a volunteer capacity since graduating from Shorecrest. She has also coached with the St. Pete Raiders organization (U12 girls team) for the past two years, coaching several of our Chargers players. She played collegiate soccer for Haverford College, where she graduated with a degree in Computer Science.

“Skyler was named the Outstanding Senior for the Shorecrest Class of 2014. She has an amazing work ethic, attitude and exemplifies the core values of Shorecrest. We are fortunate to have this natural transition between Assistant Coach and Coach. We know Coach Ellenburg will continue the Shorecrest philosophy of winning the right way,” stated McCall.
