Shorecrest School

Fall Food Drive

Lower School News

At Lower School Town Meeting, fourth grade students from Ms. Boarman’s class shared about food insecurity and the work of The Kind Mouse, a local organization that collects food to help food-insecure families get through the weekends. The Kind Mouse feeds many children throughout Pinellas County by sending food home with children on Fridays in their backpacks, through a program called Mouse Nibbles. By partnering with The Kind Mouse, the Shorecrest community will make a difference and have a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Fourth graders also made posters for the hallways, will collect contributions from each Lower School grade level, and will take pictures each week to update on Food Drive progress at future Town Meetings.

We are officially kicking off the drive next Wednesday, September 21, on International Peace Day. It is suggested that students bring in food each subsequent Monday. A particular food was assigned to each grade (see below). The Kind Mouse is requesting these items in particular for their Mouse Nibbles program:
  • Kindergarten - juice boxes
  • First Grade - fruit Cups
  • Second Grade - peanut butter packets (like Jif To Go)
  • Third Grade - canned pasta with pop-top lids
  • Fourth Grade - Vienna Sausages
  • Office staff and Special Areas - hospitality size cereal boxes
Please consider donating food to our student organized and led Food Drive - it is a beautiful opportunity to teach our students to be compassionate and caring people. The Food Drive runs through Tuesday, December 6.
