Second Grade Visits Edgemoor Community Garden

Lower School News

As part of their study of the Lifecycle of Plants, the second graders met "Farmer Ray" and "Farmer Robin" at the Edgemoor Community Garden this past Monday. "Farmer Ray" is Ray Wunderlick, a former Shorecrest student and perennial consultant on campus regarding all things gardening. "Farmer Robin" is Shorecrest alumni parent Robin Wiltshire, former teacher in The Experiential School.

At the Edgemoor Community Garden, students learned about the various herbs and vegetables grown there as well as what plants need during their various stages of development. They even got to sample some of the fresh herbs, including mint and basil, and learned a little about composting - which will be a large part of their fourth grade curriculum.

Before leaving, the students took some time to sketch and add field notes to their investigation notebooks.
