Math Game Night Recap

Lower School News

Last week Shorecrest held a Lower School Family Math Game Night. First parents and students shared dinner in Charger Commons. Then they headed to the classrooms where parents learned details about our new Bridges in Mathematics program. Then parents and students played math games together!

How are Lower School Math Classes Structured?
  • Problems & Investigations
Problems are posed to the whole class. Students work in pairs, small groups, or independently, and then they compare strategies and solutions. Mistakes are celebrated as opportunities for growth.
  • Work Places
Math games that reinforce key skills.
  • Number Corner
Skill-building program involving the classroom calendar and an element of suspense/surprise. Students have an active role. Provides daily practice with math concepts and building automaticity of math facts.
  • Homework
Assignments sent home that support what is being taught in the classroom.
