Shorecrest School

Coastal Awareness Program

Middle School News

As part of the Coastal Awareness Program made possible from a mini-grant from Tampa Bay Estuary Program, Shorecrest eighth graders visited Coffee Pot Park last Friday. They used iPad sensors to collect water quality data related to temperature, salinity and pH. Students were also able to view several common species of birds that were in the area. The sensors were not as easy as they thought they would be, but with a bit of persistence and troubleshooting they were able to collect most of the data with the hopes of becoming more efficient at collecting and analyzing the data related to the water quality of our nearby coastal zone this year.
