Creative, 3D Book Exhibits

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID and construction, the Makerspace came to life again this past week when seventh grade students created 3D posters to exhibit their independent reading books from Mrs. Brill’s English class. The students grabbed pipe cleaners, clay, beads, felt, cardboard, washi tape, and more to recreate settings, characters, symbols, themes, and key connections from books they read last month.
Responding to what you read is an important literacy skill. Hands-on projects like this one go beyond reading comprehension to encourage critical thinking skills and require analyzation, synthetization, and creativity to display the most important aspects of the novels and characters. Students also recorded book teasers, which they attached to the posters using QR codes. The final products are as beautiful and diverse as the students’ imaginations.
The MS/US Media Specialist, Mrs. Fletcher, hopes the projects will entice others to read the books or will encourage students to find a book that’s just right for them.
