Common Issues in the Clinic this Week

This week, sore throats, stomach aches and headaches were the most frequent symptoms that brought students to the clinic. Simple things like encouraging water intake and inquiring about sleeping, eating or bowel evacuation patterns can help me pinpoint or rule out the cause of their illness.
With parental consent, I do give otc medications like acetaminophen, ibuprofen or Tums to students to help them feel better, but I do like to call parents to inform them about their child’s illness or to inquire about other factors such as family illnesses, etc. that may be affecting the child’s health.
Please encourage your child to sleep at least 8 hours each night and to have breakfast every morning. Remember to send a water bottle, hats and healthy snacks to school.
Until next time, remain healthy.
