Charger Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Awards

Upper School News

On Thursday, April 25, the Shorecrest Alumni Association and the Shorecrest Athletic Department co-hosted the Charger Hall of Fame awards. Alumni, current students, parents and friends mingled during a reception before heading into the Janet Root Theatre for the awards ceremony.

Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee Chair Jim Vigue '89 hosted the awards, which honored Shorecrest athletes both past and present, reminding Chargers young and old of the rich athletic tradition in our community.

The 10th Annual Charger Hall of Fame ceremony inducted Morgan Basil ‘10 and Lisa Blumencranz ‘92. This accomplishment is a great honor and testament to the lasting athletic contribution they have made to the Shorecrest community. They will be joining an elite group of fellow alumni who have had stellar Shorecrest athletic careers.

Morgan was introduced by Elaine East, former Shorecrest faculty and tennis coach. Morgan joined the varsity tennis team in sixth grade. She was named the Shorecrest Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 2006, after winning Pinellas County District titles in Singles four years in a row and in Doubles six years in a row. Morgan went on the play professional tennis in the Women’s International Tennis Federation and collegiate tennis at Boise State.

Lisa was introduced by her sister, Jennifer Blumencranz Molnar ‘95 and brother, Brett Blumencranz ‘91. Lisa was a triple crown athlete playing softball, volleyball and soccer. Lisa was the captain of the softball team and was All-County and All-Conference three years straight. She was also the All-Conference MVP in 1990 and 1991, All State in 1992 and the St. Pete Times Player of the Year in 1992.

Each year, the Shorecrest Athletic Program recognizes the male and female student-athlete of the year with the The Coach Philip Hayford Outstanding Male Athlete Award and The Fran Risser Outstanding Female Athlete Award. Our student athletes have demonstrated commitment, teamwork, leadership, time management, endurance and more.

A video recap of the year in athletics was shared with the audience, looking back at all the great memories, reminiscing about long, hot practices, tough-fought victories, friendships made and lessons learned.

Anthony McCall, Athletic Director and Matt Thompson, Assistant Athletic Director invited the nominees for the Fran Risser Outstanding Female Athlete Award and the Coach Hayford Outstanding Male Athlete Award to the stage.
