Welcome Frenchies!
February 13, 2015
Did you notice the French flag waving at Shorecrest this week? For the 21st year, Shorecrest welcomed 17 students and two teachers from our sister-school the Lycée Pierre Bayen, in Châlons-en-Champagne, France. All of the students are living with Shorecrest families who have generously opened their homes, some for a second and even third time, to allow these French children to experience the life of an American teenager.
The "Frenchies" go to classes with their American "brother" or "sister" unless they have an excursion to a nearby attraction. They visit places such as the Dali Museum, the Florida Aquarium, Ybor City, Sawgrass Park and more. French students give back by visiting our Middle School French class and hosting students from Shorecrest who wish to visit France on the Service Trip in March.

But the most important things are happening in the hallways of Landy Hall and in various Shorecrest homes. Shorecrest students are speaking French and French students are speaking English. Friendships are being forged. An understanding and appreciation of each other's culture grows.
One French student summed up her experience when she said, "I love Florida! I have two new sisters! I only get three months of sun at home, and it is beautiful here. I don't want to go home."
