Illuminated Poetry, Wired Words

Middle School News

Seventh graders were dually creative with language and circuits in Mrs. Brill’s English class. The students used a hands-on-approach to learn about figurative language and poetic expression by creating a physical representation of their writings. Even though students were figuratively exploring light and dark imagery, they literally illuminated their poetry through the use of circuit stickers, conductive copper tape and LED lights.

The seventh graders tapped into the materials and tools available in our Makerspace: 3D printing, circuitry, duct tape, repurposed books, etc. Mrs. Brill and Ms. Walker were amazed to see how uniquely each creation unfolded from the early design prototypes to the final product were displayed in the library. This whole-brained, English-science combo shows the sparks of our students’ creativity!
