Athletics

Junior Peter L capped off an undefeated regular and post season to capture the State High School Class 1A individual tennis championship on Tuesday, and the overall state championship on Wednesday in Casselberry.

Pete won two matches on Monday, over Miami Country Day 6-0 6-2 and American Heritage in Delray Beach, 6-2 6-2. In the individual final on Tuesday, he defeated the number one player from MAST Academy in Key Biscayne 6-2 6-4.

The Charger then finished the week off with a decisive victory over Chris Ephron of Pensacola Catholic, 6-3, 6-1, which capped off a remarkable season where he went 15-0 in singles without losing a single set. More impressive is the fact that Pete never lost more than four games in any set.

In attendance at the overall title match were AD Tripp Welborne, Coach Mo Robinson, Mr. Dillow, and four friends from school who made the trip and gave him extra support. With this victory, Pete also becomes the first Shorecrest tennis player to win an individual state championship. Way to go Pete!!! Go Chargers!
