Eight of Shorecrest’s forward-thinking Upper School students got their summer off to an excellent start by participating in LeadEx Academy. Launched in 2015, LeadEx Academy at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St Petersburg, Florida, is a leadership development and career exploration program for high school students.
In early June, LeadEx participants spent one intensive week exploring personal skills and traits, as well as gaining hands-on experience alongside some of the finest leaders in the Tampa Bay area. The group started the week with Dr. Steve Byrum, discovering strengths, weaknesses, values and possible career paths through a tool with a solid reputation of helping high school and college-age students, the Hartman Value Profile.
Following this session and a brief orientation, students spent the remainder of the week externing at a different organization each day including Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig LLP, Grant Thornton International, Jabil, MBA, Pediatric ENT/Dr. Tom Andrews, M.D., Dr. Noel Tenenbaum, M.D., Valpak and YourMembership.

In addition the obvious benefit of experiencing various career fields first-hand, students also appreciated learning a great deal about themselves, as well as learning how to become more effective leaders. The LeadEx 2016 dates, details, and registration information will be available in the Summer Camps brochure published in early 2016. Space will be limited.
A very special thank you goes out to all of the amazing leaders of the participating organizations. They were an integral part to this fabulous week.
