For more than a decade, Shorecrest has been a Relay For Life school, having raised nearly $1 million for the American Cancer Society over its ten year tenure. In August, senior and 2016 Relay For Life Co-chair Lauren K along with Melissa Weest, Relay For Life Community Manager, attended the National Relay For Life Leadership Summit in Dallas, TX. An invitation to the summit is one of Relay’s highest honors - only the top 10 Relay For Life schools are invited to attend.
The honors continued as Shorecrest was named winner of the Rising Star Award for its 65% increase in year over year funds raised. In 2014, Shorecrest raised $77,000 for Relay For Life. In 2015, the School raised more than $117,000. Shorecrest was the only school to win the award. Shorecrest was also one of the select few organizations that won a second award for outstanding fundraising success.
At the National Relay For Life Leadership Summit, Lauren and Mrs. Weest joined more than 1,100 of the American Cancer Society’s top Relay For Life volunteers, Team Captains and Staff Leadership nationwide. They came together to celebrate the successes of the 2015 Relay events, as well as to prepare for the 2016 Relay For Life season.
The Co-chairs of the 2016 Relay For Life at Shorecrest are seniors Lauren K, Victoria V and Hannah W. According to Lauren, “I sought out and decided to chair the Shorecrest chapter because I have had family members affected by cancer, and I want to do whatever I can to contribute to cancer research and prevention. I am excited for this upcoming year, as we have great team of leaders ready to build upon the success of last year's Relay.”

Co-chair Hannah W has been invited to attend to prepare for her leadership role as People Lead. Shorecrest junior Jordan J has also been invited and will be acknowledged for being a Top Performer of Florida for fundraising. Jordan raised more than $30,000 for the 2015 Shorecrest Relay For Life.
