Chargers vs Bradenton Christian, 1/28, 75-70 win!
The Bay Conference Championship game was held this year in Bradenton against 21-2 and 4th ranked in the state (2A) Bradenton Christian. There was a raucous crowd who wanted to see Bradenton Christian avenge last year’s loss.
In the first quarter the Chargers came out with a good focus and game plan to work the ball through Marcus. He delivered in a big way with 12 points and 3 offensive rebounds in the first 8 minutes. Devin F and Kent K also added 3’s to see the Chargers bolt to a 22-13 lead. The 2nd quarter was equally impressive with Devin F and Devin G both making 2-3’s each and the Chargers led 41-27.
BC was not going to go away easy and started the 2nd half on an 8-0 run with back to back old fashion 3’s and the game was on. At the end of the 3rd quarter a ¾ court desperation shot at the buzzer went in and BC took their fist lead at 52-51.
The Chargers maintained their composure and traded baskets till about 2 minutes to go in the game and then we got a steal and a Colin floater and then with the very next possession Colin made a 3 pointer to put the Chargers up by 5! BC was forced to foul, and Tyee and Devin F both made 3-4 FT’s in the last 2 minutes and the Chargers prevailed with a big win and our 5th consecutive Bay Conference title!
Game Summary: Marcus B 22 points, 6 assist, 2 blocks and about 5 more contested attempts. Devin F had 16, Tyee had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assist and Colin had 11 points and 2 blocks as well.
Conference All Tournament Players included Marcus B, Aundre F, Tyee J and Kent K.
This concludes our regular season, going 18-8 and 11-1, but only 2 of our losses were against 3A opponents. We are confident we can compete against anyone as we start the playoffs.
