Coastal Awareness Program At Sawgrass Lake Park

Middle School News

On Friday, September 23, eighth graders traveled to Sawgrass Lake Park to practice their observation skills and learn about some common species that live in the area.  Students took a hike along the boardwalk to the tower, and were able to witness many species in their native habitat. All groups saw common gallinule birds, red maple trees, bald cypress, and a female american alligator with several youngsters. A few groups were able to see a friendly raccoon from a close distance as well as tri-colored herons, white ibis, and even an anhinga with a fish in his beak.
