Shorecrest School

MS Forensics Meet, Nov. 2017

Arts

Forensics is the art of speech and debate. Shorecrest Middle School competes in a league focused on speech, giving students different categories to choose from as a platform for showcasing their public speaking skills. Judges look for expressive presentations while speakers use notes and connect with an audience.

There are 6 other schools involved in the same league, and the competition is tough. Grades 5-8 may participate, and Shorecrest is the only school in the league that has fifth graders on the team.

The club is sponsored by MS Theatre Teacher Ms. Nelson. Parents of club members are not permitted to observe the rounds, but are invited (and encouraged) to judge in categories that their children are not competing in.

There are 2 rounds, and after the second round all of the ballots are tallied and there is a ceremony awarding the Top 5 in each category.

At the November 2017 meet, the Shorecrest results were:

Cían M - 8th grade: 1st place Poetry
Sofia H - 5th grade: 2nd place Individual drama
Ellie L and Stella P - 8th grade: 3rd place Duo drama
Fiona G - 5th grade: 4th place Original Oratory
Daisy N - 5th grade: 5th place Individual Drama
