Legacy Breakfast 2019
Shorecrest alumni and their children who are current Chargers gathered in the Rec Gym on Friday, February 22, for the Alumni Association's annual Legacy Breakfast. It is always a special treat to have this group gather together. Legacies are an important component of community-building here at Shorecrest. What is unique about our Legacy group is that Charger alumni dreamed of how the same educational path would work for their children.
Our Alumni and legacy children heard from Bob Willis, Jr. ‘77. Bob is a partner with the law firm Skelton, Willis and Wallace. While at Shorecrest, he was the 1977 Honors Graduate, recipient of the Faculty’s Outstanding Student Award, and was Student Body President. In 2011, Bob was inducted into the Shorecrest Chargers Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2012 he was the first ever recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award. Bob is both an alumni parent (Jackson Willis ‘15) and a current parent (Walker Willis ‘19) and along with his wife, Sally (a former Shorecrest Lower School teacher), is the sponsor of the Willis Lecture Series for the Upper School.
Bob reflected on his time at Shorecrest and how both of his sons have reimagined long-standing traditions as their own. Bob also shared that some of his proudest moments are seeing his sons dedication to service; with Walker’s Native Classroom at Shorecrest and Jackson in the West African Peace Corp. “Both sons can not separate their service from a school that encourages civic study and social involvement. Everyone is proud of their sons and daughters, and we have reason to believe that Shorecrest will increase their students' dedication to learn.”
